Spontaneous oesophageal rupture, also known as Boerhaave’s syndrome, is a rare but potentially fatal condition. This study reports a case of oesophageal rupture in a 57-year-old woman who experienced vomiting. Covered stent placement was technically successful in the patient. The clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of spontaneous oesophageal perforation are discussed. Based on a review of the literature and our case, endoscopic therapy of oesophageal perforation appears to be a promising alternative to surgery in a select group of patients.
