Zespoły bólowe kręgosłupa są obecnie jedną z najczęstszych przypadłości człowieka. Uważa się, że współczynnik zachorowalności jest wyższy niż w przypadku chorób układu sercowo-naczyniowego. Istnieje wiele przyczyn tych dolegliwości, ale na pierwszy plan wysuwają się zmiany zwyrodnieniowo-wytwórcze, prowadzące do podrażnienia zakończeń nerwowych struktur kręgosłupa. Dodatkowe uwarunkowania, takie jak sytuacja socjoekonomiczna i psychologiczna pacjenta, poziom jego wykształcenia oraz stopień aktywności, powodują, że pewne wzorce chorobowe mogą ulec utrwaleniu. Dlatego podejście do leczenia zespołów bólowych kręgosłupa powinno być interdyscyplinarne, oparte na współpracy lekarzy i terapeutów różnych specjalności. Zawsze jednak należy pamiętać o dokładnym zbadaniu pacjenta i wykluczeniu przyczyn dolegliwości niezwiązanych bezpośrednio z patologią kręgosłupa.

Spinal pain syndromes are becoming one of the most serious problems in present-day medicine. The morbidity rate is higher than in cardiovascular system diseases. There are multiple causes of ailments but the most important seem to be degenerative and proliferative changes in the vertebral structures, leading to irritation of nerve endings in the intervertebral discs, articular surfaces, ligaments and adjacent muscles. Ailments can be made worse and prolonged by additional factors such as socioeconomic and psychological conditions, education level and patient’s activity. For that reason therapeutic management should be interdisciplinary and focused on cooperation of different specialists – physicians and therapists. Regardless of this, it should always be remembered that the patient should be examined carefully to exclude more dangerous causes of ailments, not concerning the spine itself.
